Day 12 - 18/04/2018 - Hoi An, Farmer and Fisherman tour

Today we spent most of the day doing a farmer and fisherman tour. We started off by cycling through the rice fields.



This guy is illegally fishing with electrical rods used to get the fish out of the muddy banks. He was unsuccessful in the few minutes we stopped to watch.






We stopped at an organic vegetable farm. The farm is owned and run by three sisters who work 10-12 hours out in the gardens every day. The oldest is 67 years old and has a hunched back from spending her life bent over working in the gardens.











After cycling some more we stopped to meet a local rice farmer and his water buffalo which Malayah and I had a ride on.


The farmer has his hands up like that as he was on his mobile phone!!!


Then it was onto the boat for the fisherman part of the day.

We then got into the basket boats and they spun the boats in circles very fast.


We then learnt to paddle the basket boats




While we paddled they made things from the water coconut leaves






We then got onto the boats with the fisherman and had a go of pulling in the nets




It was then time to learn how to throw the nets, we learnt on the beach with a net that was only 5kgs. The nets the fisherman use on the boats are 10kgs.




I caught a tiny crab when I threw the net out, Sam picked it up and gave it to Isaac.


There are large nets set up in the water that get lowered down to catch fish, this is the device that is used to lift the net out of the water. The kids took turns, it was hard work but they got the net up.





Back on board the boat they were cooking our lunch.

      Thanks. We are having a great time. I always try to find hands on activities, although Isaac always says why cant we just have a day by the pool!!! Hope all is well and you are enjoyed NZ :)

Our holiday is coming to an end and tonight we fly home, it seemed like we had so long and suddenly it is over. We have spent our last two days in Manila shopping, swimming and catching up with family. Malayah is actually eating her dessert before her dinner. Day 21 - 27/04/2018 - Ho Chi Minh to Manila

Today was our final morning in Vietnam before our flight back to the Philippines. Breakfast on the rooftop. Sam and I wore the crocs to breakfast. The markets outside of our hotel were busy this morning. We visited the War remnants museum, I didn't take many photos, there are many graphic images in this museum showing the horrors faced during and in the aftermath of war and it really wasn't that long ago, with side effects from the war impacting people younger than myself. A very heart wrenching place. This is an actual childrens book to give children an understanding of what they should do if they come across a bomb We had just enough time for a brief visit to the palace. Day 9 - 15/04/2018 - Laguna to Manila

Didn't do a lot today, packed up after a great couple of days in Laguna, loved spending time here despite the heat!!! Road trip Lunch in the hotel, after 7 days of rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner and lots of pork and chicken both kids chose the same thing from the buffet, meat and potatoes!! Birthday lunch for Elena Time to relax by the pool Isaac standing at the 6FT mark Malayah standing at the 6FT mark After a birthday dinner for Elena.  Now off to bed as we have a very early start tomorrow.
